Elsa holds a B.A. with highest honors from the University of California at Riverside and an M.A. from Case Western Reserve University. After gaining experience as an editorial assistant and copyright administrator, she struck out on her own as a freelancer. From 2003–2006 she was a Senior Developmental Editor for Psychology with McGraw-Hill Higher Education, an in-house experience which provided many new insights about the editorial process as well as opportunities to work with world-class authors and editors. Apart from that in-house stint, she has been a successful full-time freelancer since the mid-1980s.

As a developmental editor, Elsa helps every author to shape the manuscript from the ground up, emphasizing its unique strengths and working to remedy any weaknesses, and targeting ways to help it stand out from the competition.

Disciplines in which Elsa has extensive experience include all facets of psychology and related behavioral and social sciences, the humanities (especially history and English), fine arts (especially art appreciation, art history, music appreciation, and music history), business management, HR, and cybersecurity. She has foreign language proficiency in Spanish, French, and German. In addition to developmental editing, Elsa is an experienced copyright and permissions editor and photo researcher.
