Emma Calabrese Editing Services
I am an experienced academic editor specializing in developmental editing and line editing for clients in the humanities and qualitative social sciences. I also enjoy working with academic clients looking to reach general audiences beyond fellow experts in their particular fields of study.
After receiving my PhD in literary studies, I went on to spend several years as the managing editor at an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal. Taken together, these experiences have given me insight into the conventions of scholarly and nonfiction writing and the ins and outs of academic publishing.
Just as important, I am deeply passionate about assisting scholars on the journey toward publication. I know that producing and publishing academic writing can be a difficult and inscrutable task—one that I have undertaken myself and through which I have guided many authors in turn. And while the challenges of writing and publishing a scholarly manuscript are real and can be anxiety-producing, my job is to support clients at key points in that process, providing confidence and knowledge along the way. In spite of the strictures of academic publishing, one of the joys I get to experience as an editor is helping authors to produce writing that reflects their hard work and values as scholars, citizens, and community members.
