Words with Erica

Hi, I’m Erica! Just like you, I’ve been a lover of words and stories for as long as I can remember. My greatest joys in life are reading and writing, and I’m most passionate and knowledgeable about young adult fiction, especially fantasy.

But I’m also a detail-oriented grammar nerd with a natural ability for finding and correcting errors and an intuitive understanding of story elements and flow. Several years ago, I decided to take these innate talents, develop them through training, and start using my skills to help writers like you turn your own stories into masterpieces.

When you choose to work with me, you know your manuscript is in good hands. I have a bachelor’s degree in English with an emphasis in creative writing from John Brown University. I’ve also completed many online editing and proofreading courses through Proofread Anywhere, Knowadays, the Editorial Freelancers Association, and ACES: The Society for Editing.

I began my freelance editing business, Words with Erica, in January 2021, and I’m constantly building my skills through books, professional conferences, and online courses. I’ve studied The Chicago Manual of Style extensively, but I’m also familiar with other major style guides. And as a fantasy writer myself (with my debut novel in revision now), I’m in a unique position to understand your authorly struggles because I’m walking through them with you.

While I specialize in fantasy, I have experience editing in a variety of fiction genres, including young adult, romance, dystopian, thriller, and mystery. I provide manuscript evaluations, line editing, copyediting, and proofreading.

Whether you’re in the early or late stages of the writing journey, I’d love to come with you on your fantasy adventure and help you be the hero of your own story. To see how your current project will benefit from my services, please get in touch today!
