James Michael Gallagher

Castle Walls Editing LLC

A writer and editor with twenty years of experience, I provide a host of services through Castle Walls Editing LLC. I love to work on horror and romance, in particular, but I’m an adept copy editor who also takes on marketing pieces and corporate materials.

Many years ago, I began my professional journey proofreading chemical and electrical patents for a law firm in Washington, DC. Believe it or not, it was a great gig!

Throughout my career, I’ve also worked as a technical writer for the Department of the Navy (DoN), as a marketing writer for the Navy’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Department, and as a writer and senior editor for Recorded Books, the world’s premier audiobook company.

At Recorded Books, I oversaw the production of a large-print line of books and I also served as editor for the 80- to 120-page course guides that accompanied the Modern Scholar series of university lectures from such esteemed academics as Alan Dershowitz and Harold Bloom.

My time at Recorded Books also included the writing of catalog copy, jacket copy for large-print books and audiobooks, and copy for websites, newsletters, flyers, brochures, and user guides.

While at Recorded Books, I wrote and edited marketing materials for children’s reading programs such as Plugged-In to Reading and BookJams.

Now, through Castle Walls Editing, I copyedit fiction and nonfiction manuscripts, plus a host of other materials.

I am an active member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) and ACES: The Society for Editors.

Dedicated to a path of continued learning and new challenges, I enjoy helping people, and I seek to partner with like-minded creators to produce works of high quality, integrity, and interest. Through Castle Walls Editing, I assure clients that their written work achieves its best possible form.

I embrace the notion of serving the client, the client’s audience, and the work itself. When it comes to editing, I bring a strict level of attention to every job, every document, every paragraph, and every sentence, right down to every space and punctuation mark.

So why “Castle Walls”?

I believe that words, like the blocks used to construct the world’s most beautiful castles, should be carefully chosen for strength and appearance. In the same way that blocks combine to form an aesthetically pleasing structure, words join together in sentences, paragraphs, and entire works to produce magnificent creations that can be admired right down to the smallest detail.
