JON W HARRISON

After working for companies such as Thomson Publishing and the Boston Business Journal, I became a full-time freelance writer and editor 10+ years ago.

I edit both fiction and nonfiction. A sci-fi novel I edited, Star Racers (978-0996735704), won a silver medal at the 2016 Independent Publisher Book Awards. One of my nonfiction edits, Relaxation, Awareness, Resilience (978-1619339101) by clinical psychologist Ivy Green, has been used in schools. I do a lot of academic editing, mostly in the social sciences. I work with several academics on an ongoing basis. I edited the first chapter of The Oxford Handbook of World War II (978-0199341795), published in June 2023. Academic papers edited by me have appeared in the Journal of International Relations and Development, Studies in Conflict and Terrorism, the Review of International Political Economy, the Journal of Human Resources, the Journal of Workplace Learning, Education Policy Analysis Archives, and other publications. I have editing clients in about a dozen countries in addition to the USA. I frequently work with ESL authors. I work with both experienced and novice writers. Author references are available on request.

I recently finished editing Your Finest Work (979-8989157303) by Merideth Mehlberg of the Mehlberg Group in San Francisco. Other notable nonfiction edits include 8 Core Practices of Facilitative Leaders (978-0972245883) by Michael Wilkinson, and a groundbreaking book on Alzheimer’s published by Hatherleigh in 2022. In 2021 I did the developmental edit on The Greatness Within You (978-1722505080), the latest book by motivational speaker Les Brown, published by Gildan Media.

Recent fiction edits include Just Plane Deadly (979-8395176776) by former National Security Agency officer Bill Johnston, and Ocean Quicksand (978-8986645827) by Dennis Stamm, a novel based on real events that occurred in the 1960s.

I’ve edited authors who are graduates of Harvard, Berkeley, Dartmouth, the University of Chicago, and Cambridge University in England.

I usually edit with Word’s Track Changes. My rates are reasonable. My goal is to help you turn your manuscript into the best book it can be.

I also offer manuscript evaluations. An evaluation is an inexpensive way to get an expert’s opinion on your work and begin the developmental process for your manuscript.

I have ghostwritten four full-length books, including two memoirs, a business book, and a book of historical essays. The latter book recently surpassed 20,000 copies sold. As a ghostwriter or collaborator I can help turn your vision into reality.

My shorter writing has appeared in the New York Times, the International Business Times, the Humanist, Liberty (I was a contributing editor there from 2008 to 2014), Foreign Policy Journal, and other print and online publications. An essay I wrote in 2011, “Terra Instabilis,” was chosen for inclusion in a McGraw-Hill textbook (978-0073528755). I’ve also created content for MPS and similar services. I wrote a booklet on editing published by the EFA titled Author and Editor Together: Building the Best Manuscript (978-1880407752).

Subjects I write about include US politics and foreign policy, American, European, and Middle Eastern history, military history, economics and business, and social and cultural issues.

Any writer or aspiring author should feel free to reach out to me for discussion about your work and how I might be able to help you.
