I hold am M.A. in English and have been coaching and teaching writing skills since 1976, as an adjunct instructor and currently as a freelance copyeditor for a local weekly newspaper. I am committed to coaching writers to become better writers by helping them navigate the process of writing, not just aiming for a polished end result without the underpinning knowledge of how language works. Paid writers are typically writing for the experienced reader — professional or recreational — who expects a certain level of competency in syntax, diction, word use, and standard grammatical usages. I take on the role of that reader, a friendly critic who wants the writer to succeed!
Remember, there is no “bad” or “good” writing, there is only effective writing.
