Katherine Ann Wiley

Goldenrod Editorial and Consulting, LLC

I’m an academic developmental editor, which means that I focus on big picture issues in writing, including argument, structure, engagement with sources, organization, voice, and narrative flow. As a former tenured professor and writing instructor, I draw upon my own experiences in publishing, writing, and research to deliver outstanding support. I’ll provide you with detailed feedback on your work, helping you to produce high-quality, thought-provoking writing for academic journals and university presses. Goldenrod’s Latin name (solidago) means “to make whole”; my job as an editor is to help you achieve your full potential as an author and make your work the best it can be.

I offer developmental editing, as well as substantive or line editing. I can also provide writing, research, and coaching support. I edit books and articles as well as job materials and grant applications. If you need support just getting writing done, I also offer scholarly writing groups.

I have an interdisciplinary background, with a PhD in anthropology and a BA in English. This means I edit in a range of subjects, all of which I have researched, taught, and published in. These include: anthropology, African studies, English, gender studies, global studies, history, Islamic studies, material culture studies, Middle Eastern studies, religious studies, slavery studies, and sociology. I also work with other disciplines in the qualitative social sciences and humanities. I have experience working with scholars from a wide range of schools, including Butler College, CUNY, Georgetown University, Indiana University, Lehigh University, NYU-Abu Dhabi, Rutgers, Smith College, Tulane University, the University of Wisconsin, and Wellesley College.

Work with me if you are looking for an editor who will listen to your needs and shape her work to best meet them. Work with me if you are looking for an editor who will be a fervent supporter of your work, while also being willing to deliver compassionate feedback to help you meet your writing goals. Work with me if you are looking for an editor whose goal is to help you produce your best thinking and writing!
