Kelly Thomas

K.T. Consulting

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in English (Major: Literature; Minor: Psychology) from Pace University and I’m a Certified Copy Editor and Literary Agent in New York City with a passion for writing, editing, and mentoring aspiring writers. I have worked on countless projects serving as a substantive editor, copy editor, proofreader, ghost writer, and manuscript evaluator. I am familiar with both AP and CMS style guides.

As a Literary Agent, I critique and edit manuscripts for authors, ensuring that their manuscripts and sample chapters are pristine and ready for submission to publishing houses. I have extensive experience with proofreading, copy editing, deep/line editing, developmental editing and ideating. This includes looking for content consistency, grammatical errors, typos, redundancies of ideas, repetitive word use, accurate phrasing, deadwood, misplaced modifiers, proper sentence structure, appropriate verbiage, and smooth transitions. I am well versed in manuscript evaluation which includes providing critique, constructive criticism, explanations of the issues and solutions to the problem. I am able to work with writers to help them create more vivid descriptions, scene setting, character development, world building, voice, tone, and to define the theme for their manuscript. I help writer’s reshape their story arc so that all areas of the narrative flow fluidly through the conflict, rising action, climax and resolution.

I have written book proposals that best represent the author’s manuscript, platform and biography. Many of the book proposals I have written have been picked up by both agents and editors. As a Literary Agent, I spend all day reading and evaluating queries, so I have a very strong grasp on the art of writing a query letter.  I have given workshops and sat on panels explaining the nuances of the query letter to aspiring authors. I have served as a ghost writer to bring non-traditional writer’s stories to life in an elegant way. I have written countless blogs and articles on various forums. I have worked for an Academic Tutoring and College Admissions Consulting Company, writing blogs for their website, editing student essays, and assisting with thesis projects. I have worked as a Resume Writer for multiple recruiting agencies where I have edited, formatted, and revised resumes. In the business world, I have written marketing literature, business plans, continuity plans, training manuals, process documents, reports, bids for opportunities, RFP’s and RFI’s. In my earlier years, I worked as a Freelance Writer, first researching material and then writing articles for Demand Studio. I am an accomplished poet with several poems published in magazines and books.

In my spare time, I attend writing conferences where I mentor writers and aspiring authors in training sessions, and sit on panels to discuss how the publishing industry works and the role of Literary Agents. I write poems and short stories for various online publications. I am a ferocious reader and a dexterous wordsmith with a strong command of the English language. I am a versatile writer and editor with the ability to adjust to whatever your freelance needs may be. Writing samples, references, and resume are available upon request.
