Krista Dapkey

KD Proofreading

With experience editing and proofreading fiction in genres ranging from WWII historical suspense to middle grade fantasy, I specialize in romance and adore all its subgenres and tropes. I hold a BA in Psychology and an MS in School Counseling—so I’m no stranger to rewrites and revisions, having written and rewritten, amended and abridged, overhauled and refashioned more papers than I can count. I’ve long been undaunted by the editing process, and being detail oriented and naturally adaptive play a huge role in my success as a proofreader. I have a great pair of “eagle eyes,” but I know that’s not enough. I’m a graduate of the comprehensive program Proofread Anywhere: General Proofreading, under the tutelage of Caitlin Pyle, as well as a member of both the American Copy Editors Society (ACES) and the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA).

In addition to reading, I also enjoy sewing and baking. Although it’s up for debate, it’s been suggested that I may have a slight addiction to the Hallmark channel; but in my defense, I (usually) only watch while I’m sewing or baking. Or during Christmastime. Or any other season of the year.

Testimonials

Working with Krista has unquestionably been the best part of my writing journey. Her ability to understand and improve my voice is astonishing. Her love and passion for the written word is felt in every aspect of her work. And so is the fact that she cares about the characters as much as I do. She’s so much more than an editor and the only one I trust with my book babies!”

—A. J. Logan, author of the Golden Olympus Academy series, Fueled series, and Sacred Creed Academy series

“I’m so glad I stumbled upon Krista from KD Proofreading. Without intruding on my author’s voice, she polished my writing, finding small errors others had missed, and offered suggestions that made my writing pop. I would recommend her in a heartbeat and plan to use her services in the future.”

—Georgia Tingley, author of Having Faith

“It’s very seldom that I get something right on the first try. I didn’t realize it as a new author, but when I chose Krista to be on my team, I couldn’t have made a better decision. Here we are, twenty-two books later, and she’s gone from being my proofreader to my editor—and the only one I trust to make sure my books shine.”

—Amanda Bailey, author of the Brookhaven Blues series, Change of Heart series, Dare to Dream series, and Flirting with Forever series

“I highly recommend working with Krista if you want a proofreader who is prompt, professional, and perfectly delightful. She made the process painless. And thanks to Krista’s skill and knowledge, I feel confident putting my first book out into the world. I can’t wait to work with her on book 2!”

—Rachael Bloome, author of The Clause in Christmas

“If you think you don’t need a proofreader, you’re wrong! Krista is the Comma Queen … with her help, my manuscript is now polished, professional, and free from the type of errors that turn readers away. She finds those pesky details that the author doesn’t see because we are just too close to the work or simply don’t know any better. It’s “tenterhooks” not “tenderhooks!” Who knew? Krista did! She saved me from many grammatical errors that might prompt a reader to leave a bad review. She is fast, thorough, and is also very kind about the frantic energy many new authors bring to their work. I highly recommend KD Proofreading for quality proofing services!”

—Mavis Williams, author of Legally in Love

“Krista was very thorough and found corrections that I never would have thought of.  She was a joy to work with and I look forward to future projects with her.”

—Myra Wards, author of Sing for Me

“If you’ve been looking for an amazing proofreader, you may now stop your search. I am so thrilled that I’ve found KD Proofreading! Krista is an amazing professional who has been very responsive and efficient. I was sure I’d corrected all the misspellings, but boy does she have a sharp eye for those hidden mistakes that my eye failed to catch. My commas were all over the place, thank God I have Krista to fix them. Rest assured that her critique is very constructive, I was excited  to start working and going over all her suggestions. I know my manuscript will be so much better for all the work that Krista has put in. I will absolutely work with her in the future!”

—Anya Stassiy, author of Spice of Love

“Thank you, Krista! Working with you was an absolute pleasure. You went above and beyond, and I will forever be grateful for all your help and encouragement. Publishing a book can be so overwhelming, but working with you was excellent! Thank you for everything!”

—Ellen Joy, author of Better with You

“Krista did an amazing job on my manuscript, and she did it fast too! There are so many things she caught that will give my book the professional edge it will need to keep a smooth flow. Highly recommended, and I will be back.”

—Keri Brown, author of Origo

“I strongly recommend Krista’s proofreading service. She was quick, precise, and respected my writing style throughout her work on my novel. She pointed out and explained why she found a sentence awkward and suggested examples to improve it. Krista is also very nice to work with, friendly, and professional. I’ll certainly use her service again.”
