Kristine Nemec

Hello! I help nonprofits and businesses that address environmental and public health challenges clairfy their message and increase their impact.

I draw on nearly 20 years work experience as an environmental planner and researcher and extensive communication training, including a professional sequence in editing certificate from the University of California, Berkeley, to help my clients produce clear technical writing. I approach my work with strong listening skills grounded in curiosity so I can understand your goals and audience. My passion is producing quality products on time and within budget.

Projects include:
– white papers
– reports
– educational materials
– slide decks
– online articles
– journal articles

Services include:
– technical writing
– scientific writing
– speech writing
– fact checking
– copyediting
– line editing
– developmental editing

Experience:
– environmental policy
– ecosystem restoration
– ecological and social resilience
– social science
– environmental regulations
– emergency management

My professional memberships include the Ecological Society of America, National Association of Science Writers, and Indigenous Editors Association. My participation in the professional communication organization Toastmasters International for over ten years has helped me learn to produce audience-centered, jargon-free speeches and slide decks.

As a first-generation college student I obtained a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies and a master’s degree in Biology from the University of Nebraska-Omaha and a PhD in Natural Resource Sciences from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I currently call Waterloo, Iowa home.

When I’m not working with words, you can find me reading, cycling, walking my rescue Schnauzer/terrier dog, figuring out how to fit more native plants in my yard, and learning the Cherokee language.
