Word of Difference
My background gives me an edge in working specifically with YA and teen novels, but I also work with adult fiction literature, memoirs, cookbooks, blogs, and magazine articles. Coming from a background of nearly ten years teaching middle school ELL in a Title I school, I have a wealth of experience not only in teaching reading, writing, and language skills, but also in dealing with a diverse demographic of teens and tweens and the dramas (oh, the angst!) of their day-to-day lives. My favorite part of the job was recommending books to kids that they could relate to, and helping them learn to love reading and harness the power of writing.
I have a BA from University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and an MEd from Pacific Lutheran University. On top of my experience teaching English and writing, I have also taken proofreading courses. I have been an avid reader since I developed the motor skills to hold a book. While I enjoy writing, I enjoy it even more to critique and help better writers than I to sound their best!
You will find I’m not one to sugar-coat, but if you want to feel like you have a supporter in your corner who is all about making your writing the best it can be with thorough feedback and communication, then I’m your huckleberry.
