Linda Schmukler

Proofreader with a great eye / Gifted line editor / Copy editor / Writer and more:

I have over two decades experience in the field of children’s books: proofreading and copy editing, working both in and out of house, including eleven years as a production editor at Scholastic. Freelance clients have included Scholastic, Random House, HarperCollins, Bloomsbury, and an independent author. I’ve worked on all genres and age levels of children’s books: picture books, YA fiction, cookbooks, science, sports bios, and more.

I copyedited and fact-checked the Avon Representative Times for eight years. This corporate newsletter went out to Avon Representatives twice monthly, and it provided specific business guidance as well as inspirational biographies. I helped maintain a consistent voice across various authors and editors. Additionally, I interviewed Leadership Representatives and crafted stories detailing their experiences.

I’ve also copyedited and proofread Grades K–12 educational materials for several years for clients such as Scholastic, Amplify, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Materials include teacher resources and consultant guides, research reports and marketing documents, teacher guides and student editions, animations, independent reading (K–12 books), and children’s readers.

My skills include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InCopy, Acrobat, and database use and design. Other areas of experience/expertise include Italian, fine arts, and theater.
