Greta D'Amico, MFA, PhD

Writer/ Editor/ Teacher/ Literary Consultant/ Linguist/ Translator

Two Rivers Editing

  • Developmental/Content Editing: Fiction and Nonfiction
  • Substantive Consulting and Editing: Project Assessment, Craft Talks, Focus on Voice, Pacing, and Flow at the sentence level, Mentorship

With close to two decades of experience in writing, editing, teaching, and literary scholarship, I work with both seasoned and emerging authors to hone structure, plot/narrative arc, characterization, voice, and theme. I edit multiple genres and styles of fiction, including literary, historical, mainstream, speculative, suspense, mystery, romance, and hybrid. In nonfiction, I edit memoirs, topical essays, and other varieties of thoughtful prose, as well as synopses and query letters. International, Transcultural, and LGBTQ voices welcome.

My approach: Confluence 1: A coming or flowing together, meeting, or gathering at one point; 2: the junction of two rivers

A good book deserves to reach its destination: enthusiastic readers. Editing at its best involves collaboration between the author and editor.

Compassion + honesty + respect: I bring experience, a breadth of knowledge and skills, and a nuanced perspective to your project.

My credentials include an MFA in Creative Writing, University of New Orleans, a PhD in Comparative Literature, University of Washington, an MA in Whole Systems Design, Antioch University-Seattle, and an advanced degree in French language and culture. I completed my undergraduate degree (BFA) in Interdisciplinary Fine Arts. Editing has been a natural extension of my past work as a university teacher of language, literature, writing, and interdisciplinary topics in the humanities and social sciences. My life work and service are informed by depth inquiry in human-environmental dynamics, dedication to eco-social justice, art, dance, a sustained yoga practice, and by travels and years spent living in multiple settings around the world and in the U.S.

Every writer needs encouragement and acknowledgment. Like you, I work at this.

For my fiction writing, I won First Place in the 2021 Pacific Northwest Writers Association (PNWA) Literary Contest in the Historical Fiction category: The Scyther by Margaret D’Amico; my historical fiction was Longlisted with an Honorable Mention in the 2020 Leapfrog Press Literary Contest; I was a Finalist in the 2016 PNWA Literary Contest, in Historical Fiction. I’m a published translator of Italian poetry and French literary criticism. I’ve earned several literary and scholarly awards, fellowships, and artistic residencies in the U.S. and abroad: see (57) Greta D’Amico, MFA, PhD | LinkedIn

I belong to and continually learn from a community of committed writers and writing professionals.

Memberships, Conferences, and Continuing Ed:
