Paula A Stacey

I am an editor who works closely with authors to develop their books (fiction & nonfiction), articles, essays, and short stories with the goal of publishing to reach the widest possible audience. I have helped shaped writing published in periodicals ranging from the New York Times to prestigious literary journals. I have also helped a long list of nonfiction authors in psychology and education turn their ideas and stories into books for teachers, therapists, and the general public. Most recently, I guided a debut novelist trying to make her start in the competitive literary fiction market through a substantial revision of her book, resulting in a signed contract with a prominent literary agency.

I have a long history in publishing, having begun my career writing promotional copy for Jossey-Bass, a publisher of scholarly and professional books that is now owed by Wiley & Sons. My experience also includes starting up, writing for, and overseeing the content of magazines and newsletters, publicizing books, and writing specialized articles and curriculum.

I am a both a writer (with a history of published poetry and essays under my belt) and a developmental editor at heart. I love nothing more than digging into new material, uncovering an author’s intention, and helping him or her find exciting new ways to communicate with readers. While I work mostly with authors intent on publishing or self publishing, I also love working with students to help them grow and develop as writers and to meet the challenge of telling their own stories in their college admissions essays. My clients are at all stages of their careers and come with projects at all stages of development–from work that just needs tightening or a quick copyedit to books that are still ideas forming in their heads.

One of my special skills is writing killer query letters and proposals. For more information please see website at www.paulastacey.com
