Rachel E. Hicks

Rachel E. Hicks Freelance Writing and Copyediting

I’m a copyediting professional who is a master of language, usage, and mechanics, and who excels in multiple editorial and quality-control tasks. I have a sharp eye for typos, graphics and formatting issues, and problems with usage. However, I’m gentle and warm in my professional interactions with others.

My experience includes editing and proofreading a broad variety of web content, print and digital marketing materials, training materials and manuals, book manuscripts, video scripts, reports, short e-books, and more. My clients are global and local companies, nonprofit organizations, and authors. I am the editor of Among Worlds magazine, and as an associate editor at Del Sol Press I also edit fiction and poetry. I work remotely and on site for projects, as necessary.

Clients appreciate my expertise, professional and empathetic communication, and quick turn-around times on urgent projects. I have a strong work ethic and approach every aspect of my job with integrity and dedication. Best of all, I have never missed a deadline! My passion is to help my clients make sure that everything they publish is as polished and professional as it can be.

A writer whose poems and short fiction have appeared in numerous literary journals, I also write guest blog posts, fiction, and essays. Besides freelancing, my career has included teaching high school English, homeschooling my children, and volunteering with an international relief and development organization in China. I write about many topics, such as cross-cultural living and travel, humanitarian causes, parenting, healthy living, education, creative writing, and religion/spirituality.

I love traveling and have lived in seven countries. I also enjoy eating spicy Indian and Sichuan food, reading, hiking, spending time with my family, and driving an electric scooter (which I miss tremendously now that I’m back from China).

I’d love to connect with you to help you on your project!
