Richard J Turcsik

RJT Editorial Services

Richard  Turcsik offers more than 25 years of experience in trade magazine news and creative writing, with a concentration on the retail, supermarket, food and manufacturing industries.

During my career I have worked at many of the leading magazines in the supermarket trade publication field, including Supermarket News (Fairchild Publications/Walt Disney Company)  where I was employed for a decade as the lead Reporter covering financial, grocery, perishables, executive changes and general news for the weekly “Bible” of the supermarket industry.   I also helped launch their sister publication Brand Marketing where I served as Associate Editor of a monthly magazine looking at overall trends in the CPG industry.

At Progressive Grocer (Bill Communications/VNU Business Publications) I was Senior Editor/Grocery for a six-year stint, writing in-depth feature articles covering a wide variety of Center Store consumables and non-foods, including packaged grocery, paper products, alcoholic beverages, frozen foods and dairy products. I also wrote many of the monthly magazine’s cover stories on a wide variety of current-event and business topics, as well as the popular Store of the Month supermarket profile feature where I would visit stores around the country and write in-depth profiles about the store and how it fits into its community.

In 2004, I was recruited by Grocery Headquarters (MacFadden Communications) as a Senior Editor. I was soon promoted to the new title of Executive Editor and wrote the majority of cover stories and feature articles and instituted the Retail Spotlight feature where I profiled new, remodeled or unique supermarkets around the country. I visited these stores in person and spoke with the store management and associates and told their stories to our 33,000-plus readership.  As part of this feature I also implemented a popular price check where I checked prices on 25 common grocery items in the store being profiled as well as two competitors.

In June 2017, Grocery Headquarters was acquired by Winsight Media. I stayed with the publication through September, writing feature articles for the October issue. I took on additional duties including all of the duties of the previous managing editor, hiring and editing the work of freelancers and filing daily online news stories.  Effective with the November issue, the magazine is being rebranded and going in a totally different editorial direction, so I decided it was time for me to move on and pursue a different career strategy.

I also offer retail experience, having worked in the drugstore, general merchandise and department store industries.
