Ryan Chastain-Gross
Ryan is a seasoned editor who has edited thousands of pre-submission and post-acceptance manuscripts for a wide range of academic authors from many countries throughout Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America. His editing experience includes medical science topics such as microbiology, virology, immunology, ophthalmology, optometry, dentistry, oral surgery, urology, nephrology, anesthesiology, neurology, dermatology, otolaryngology, radiology, oncology, veterinary medicine, and alternative medicine.
Ryan was previously a post-doctoral fellow in a urology department, where he studied the role of the gut microbiome in kidney stone formation. He earned his PhD in Medical Sciences while working in an oral biology laboratory, where he investigated the genetic basis of bacterial pathogenesis in severe periodontal disease—this work covered the areas of microbiology, immunology, genomics, molecular biology, and dentistry. Ryan also has experience in ophthalmology and vision science, as well as the bench techniques and bioinformatics approaches necessary for microbiome studies, which he taught to undergraduate students. He was previously a member of the American Urological Association, the American Association for Dental Research, and the American Society for Microbiology. He has experience using statistical tools such as R and GraphPad Prism. He has presented research at conferences, published numerous articles, and acted as a peer reviewer.
