With over three decades experience working in higher education – as faculty, archaeologist, librarian, systems analyst, and administrator, I have transitioned to my first love – research and writing. Editing others’ work adds a good dimension to my efforts. As a long-time researcher and writer, I have studied prehistoric sites, modern scholarly communications, and, currently, New England history that includes genealogy and the study of personal and local histories. In 2016, I published a book based on the 1860s photo album my great great grandmother compiled. Information on it can be found at http://www.sslukeshfrozenintime.com. A PDF of a lecture based on the book can be downloaded from my publication list at http://www.susanslukeshllc.com/Publications.html. This year will see the publication of a book using a 1912 travel journal of my great aunt, Agatha! Agatha Snow Abroad: A Sketch Book from her 1912 European Tour.
In addition to my research and writing, since November 2012, I have served as an editorial associate for ACM Inroads, a quarterly magazine focused on computer science education. In addition to shepherding submissions through the system and turning them over to the co-editors, I subsequently copy edit the peer-reviewed articles on acceptance and proofread the final proof of each issue; I developed guidelines for formatting and submitting articles for publication.
The transition of my research from the excavation and study of prehistoric settlement remains to genealogical research and the study of personal and local histories is reflected in my recent and current activity: a long-term project of genealogical research of family members from the Mayflower forward as well as short genealogical research projects; biographies of Adolph Ochs and Jacob Schieffelin for the German Historical Institute; substantive copy editing of a 400 page novel by young woman from the mid-East; development of a Wikipedia entry for a colleague and major upgrade of Wikipedia biography of my great aunt, portrait painter, Margaret Fitzhugh Browne. Access to the GHI biographies is available from my publications list referenced above.
