Tess Rankin

I specialize in copyediting, line editing, and Spanish-to-English translation. I have worked with many Spanish-speaking clients on polishing their English texts. I edit all kinds of writing including academic and nonacademic articles, dissertation chapters, résumés and CVs, cover letters, abstracts, and museum and gallery texts. I can proofread your writing in accordance with various style guides, including MLA and Chicago. I welcome projects of any size and have worked on texts on a wide range of topics related to Spain and Latin America, from literary studies and cultural studies to visual art, social sciences, and more.

I have a PhD in Spanish & Portuguese Languages and Literatures from New York University where I wrote a dissertation on scientific discourse and the construction of gender in midcentury novels. I received my BA in Comparative Literature at Columbia University where I studied Spanish and Turkish. I have lived in Spain, and, in addition to my wide-ranging editing and translation experience, I have taught numerous Spanish and English classes. I served as Managing Editor of the Journal of Spanish Cultural Studies (2018–2022). While I am based in New York, I can work with you on projects wherever you may be.
