North Texas Chapter: Not Your Mama’s Spellcheck: Determining Whether AI Is the Write Tool for You

April 27th @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm CDT

“Turn your draft novel into a bestseller.”
“Take the guesswork out of great writing.”
“A beta reader you don’t have to bribe with chocolate.”

Automated grammar checkers and AI writing programs make big promises to writers, but are they true?

This presentation—covering Grammarly, ProWritingAid, AutoCrit, and Fictionary—will explore what these programs do, what they don’t do, and how professional editors can set themselves apart to gain clients. You’ll leave this webinar with an understanding of how editing is being shaped by digital and AI tools and where editors fit into the bigger picture.

This meeting will be held Saturday, April 27 at 2 p.m. CT via Zoom. Click the link below to RSVP so we know how many people to expect.

About the presenter: Jeanette Smith is a copyeditor, content writer, and mermaid Instagrammer based in Dallas, TX. She aims to demystify the editing process through self-editing instruction and help authors end up with the best manuscript possible. Her fiction works have appeared in Glassworks, Jelly Bucket, Second Chance Lit, and others. She has been an EFA member for several years and presented at EFA CON 2023. Jeanette is always thrilled to help other editors upskill, believing that we all rise when we work together.
