Important Information About Our Recorded Webinars

After placing your order, your recorded webinar will be added to your personal course library on our education site. That site has different login information from the main EFA site. Please check your email for information on how to access the webinar.

Webinar recordings may not be downloaded, and access ends five years after the recording date. Please check the webinar air date at the bottom of this listing to know how long you will have access to the recording.

Proofreading is so much more than simply correcting stray typos and pesky misspellings. Proofreaders examine materials in their final form (be it a novel, cookbook, or blog post), after layout and formatting, as they will appear to the reader. Though proofreaders do look for errors in the text that other editing rounds have missed, they also check that design specifications have been met, identify formatting errors such as “bad breaks” and missing headers, flag poor-quality images, and much more!

If proofreading doesn’t sound like editing, that’s because it’s quite different from making improvements to the text. Think of proofreading as the process of sweeping away the pencil shavings left by other editorial rounds and ensuring the material is ready to print. It’s a unique job that requires a unique set of skills.

In this 60-minute webinar, you’ll learn the important distinctions between proofreading and copyediting, understand why proofreading comes last in the editorial process, and gain fundamental knowledge about the types of errors to look for. You’ll also be introduced to various types of markup, concentrating on PDF stamps and Adobe tools. If you’ve ever wondered how to branch out into proofreading or make it the starting point of your editorial career, this session is for you.
